On Mondays, January 20 and February 17, we will provide the food and servers for a lunch meal through Hands on Hartford. If you would like to join us in Hartford or bake two dozen cookies, please sign up online. Please contact Rich Baber at richbaber@yahoo.com if you have questions.
We hope you will sign up online to join us for our winter Mission Immersion Day (MID) on Saturday, February 8. If you have any questions, please contact Terry Darr at terrydarr@sbcglobal.net. We have opportunities at three different sites:
Cookies + Visits: You/your family can assemble a small care package at home or make cookies or soup at church with other families, then deliver them to brighten the day of a fellow church member or two who will be assigned a few days in advance. This is a great opportunity for families with young children.
Journey Home: This nonprofit https://journeyhomect.org/ is dedicated to ending homelessness. We will be assisting a family to move out of homelessness into a home. We need a team of eight volunteers who are able to move furniture to meet at their warehouse in West Hartford at 10:00 a.m. and help them load their box truck, then follow the truck to their Hartford area delivery destinations and help unload. We will wrap up by 1:00 p.m. Ages 12 and up are welcome.
Saint Vincent de Paul: SVDP’s goal is to meet the community’s needs and offer hope through their pantry, soup kitchen, arranging housing and providing rides. We will serve lunch to about 120 guests from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at 617 Main Street in Middletown (minimum age 14). We will also be collecting cookies and clementines to add to their menu. Food donations should be labeled and dropped off in the church kitchen on Friday, February 7, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
First Church has had a long tradition of collecting food items for our neighbors in need. In January, we’re asking for contributions for the Glastonbury Food Pantry, including applesauce, rice, canned pasta and other items. Please bring food that is not expired or open. You can drop off your donations in the back lobby or in the Narthex. If you have questions, contact Susan Lambert at sjlambert22@gmail.com.
