2024 First Church Walk Against Hunger
2024 First Church Walk Against Hunger

Join the First Church team in our annual Walk Against Hunger as we continue our support of Connecticut Foodshare in their mission to address food insecurity in the state. Our walk on May 3 will once again be at the Addison Bog at 10:00 a.m. You can donate online to Connecticut Foodshare. Connecticut Foodshare supports individuals and families – from one end of the state to the other – by addressing root causes, creating long-term solutions, and distributing nutritious food through local partner programs in an effort to alleviate hunger. If you have questions, please contact Sally Riddell at sally.m.riddell@gmail.com.

We hope you will be able to join us for our spring Mission Immersion Day on Saturday, May 3, when we will come together to brighten the day of those who may need it. You can sign up online or contact Terry Darr with any questions at terrydarr@sbcglobal.net. Our two opportunities are Cookies + Visits (make a care package at home or make cookies at church with other families, then visit a church member) and ABC House Spring Clean-Up. Glastonbury A Better Chance (ABC) offers young men of color from underserved communities with demonstrated ability and good character the opportunity to live in community in Glastonbury and obtain an excellent education.

On Monday, May 12, we will travel to Hartford to serve a community dinner at Hands on Hartford. We will be both providing the food and bringing in a crew to serve. For those of us serving, we will arrive at 55 Bartholomew Ave. in Hartford at 4:30 pm. Dinner is served from 5:30 to 6:30 and we will be finished by 7:00 pm.

We are also responsible for preparing the food. We will need a main dish (recipes provided), prepared salads, dinner rolls, fruit, beverages, and dessert. Click the button above to sign up. Those items can be dropped off at the church kitchen either Sunday morning (5/11) or Monday afternoon (5/12) from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.

For more information, please contact Rich Baber at richbaber@yahoo.com.

Thanks for your donations!
Thanks for your donations!

First Church has had a long tradition of collecting food items for our neighbors in need. Our April food collection of pasta, pasta sauce, beef stew, rice and other items will support MACC (Manchester Area Conference of Churches). Please bring food that is not expired or open. You can drop off your donations in the back lobby or in the Narthex. If you have questions, contact Susan Lambert at sjlambert22@gmail.com.
