Enjoy our Festival Service of Lessons and Carols online!

Updated: Jan 2

  • Director of Music Ministries: Dr. Angela Salcedo

  • Music: The Chancel and Cantate Choirs, Jubilate and Mallet Ringers and the Constitution Brass Quintet will participate in this festive service.

The Choirs of First Church celebrate the Christmas season with the yearly tradition of music and scripture lessons of Advent and Christmas, inspired by the cathedrals of England and made famous by the yearly broadcast from King’s College Chapel, Cambridge. We invite you to this inspiring service to listen to and sing some of your favorite Christmas carols and choir anthems accompanied by the brilliant English style sounds of our fabulous Schoenstein pipe organ and The Constitution Brass Quintet.

Dear Friends,

The season of Advent is here, and soon we will hear the familiar words – “For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders, and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

We know the story, the words and the carols. And yet sometimes the stress of the season can outweigh the blessings, and the struggles can outdo the joy. Sometimes the sadness of the ongoing violence in our world threatens to overcome us. One way to combat all the challenges in our own lives and the world is to come together to pray, sing, listen and be in community.

We invite you to worship with us this Sunday for our annual Lessons and Carols service. We have one service only this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse. We give thanks for all of our church musicians who have been practicing for months so that we might hear again this familiar story. The service will also be livestreamed online.

The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.

So, let us come this Sunday just as you are – joyful, worried, excited, overwhelmed and more – so you can hear again the story of Jesus’ birth so long ago. Let us come together to remember we are rooted and grounded in love and called to share that love in the world. Let us come together to be reminded of our call from God to be people of hope, peace, joy and love.

With love, Kate

Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On most Sundays our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and are also available for viewing later).
