Dear Friends,
As I sit here in my living room with the glow of our Christmas tree and snow village, I’m reminded of Christmases past. I normally love this time of year, but right now I’m not feeling very merry or bright. Maybe it has to do with the continued violence and war plaguing our world. Maybe it is because I know some of the struggles you all are facing, and my heart breaks. Maybe it’s because I’m in my own season of deep grief. Maybe it’s because the injustice and hatred all around us seem impossible to overcome with light and love.
But then the lights of our Christmas tree and snow village remind me that there is hope and love all around us. I think of the words of O Holy Night - “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices…” The birth of Christ is a reminder that God is active in this weary world, working to make things better, helping to inspire us, being present with us and always encouraging us to be faithful people of God.
We are a people that serve, sing, pray and build together. So let us gather together to worship this Sunday at 8:00 a.m. in the Micah Chapel and at 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse or online.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
On Christmas Eve, we have three worship services at 4:30, 8:00 and 11:00 p.m. You can find more information online.
As the countdown to Christmas continues, may we remember that a baby was born so long ago to give us hope and to show us the way of love.
Blessings, Kate
Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On most Sundays our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and are also available for viewing later).
